The Men's Guild (Madodana) of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Africa (EPCSA) in Polokwane recently convened for their annual general meeting at the Nghenabo family residence in Mokopane. This gathering provided a crucial platform for the men of the church to reflect on their progress, discuss their program of action, and seek divine guidance for their future endeavors.

A Gathering of Purpose and Faith

Led by their president, Rev. Tlhabela, Madodana reaffirmed their commitment to the church, engaging in meaningful discussions and prayers. Their unwavering dedication to service, both within the church and the broader community, was evident throughout the meeting. This annual event stands as a testament to their faith, unity, and determination to inspire and uplift others.

Reflecting on Progress and Challenges

Outgoing chairperson, Mr. Hlomane, presented a comprehensive report highlighting key achievements over the past 3 years. He noted the unity achieved within the Polokwane Parish, particularly through the integration of seven parishes from the Standing for the Truth Movement (SFTM) at the Presbytery Exco. He also praised Madodana for their steadfast support during funerals, their growing financial and spiritual commitment, and the development of skills in preaching, liturgy, and constitutional matters.

However, he acknowledged areas requiring improvement, particularly in outreach efforts. Looking forward, he emphasized the importance of including their spiritual mother in activities, hosting a mass opening on March 8, and promoting a generational mix in leadership elections. He also urged members to prioritize financial commitments, attend prayer sessions, enhance communication among leaders, and focus on fundraising initiatives. In his farewell address, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the executive and all members for their unwavering support.

  • Membership saw a slight increase of 0.28%.

  • Dr. AK Msimeki was honored as a distinguished member.

  • Recruitment and retention strategies showed limited success.

  • Efforts to engage male congregants through music and social events had minimal impact.

2. Guild Activities

  • Members actively participated in bereavements, hospital visits, and wedding preparations.

  • Delegates attended other regional and national men’s and women’s guild events.

3. Ministry & Unity

  • Regular “Super Tuesday” meetings fostered unity, though attendance remained low.

  • Virtual meetings saw increased attendance but lower engagement.

Financial Outlook: A Vision for Growth

Treasurer Mr. Chauke presented a detailed income projection for the Madodana Polokwane Parish, outlining various revenue streams, including:

  • Affiliation and administration fees

  • Conference fundraising efforts

  • Super Tuesday contributions

  • Synod-Presbytery and Presbytery bereavement affiliations

  • Fraternal greetings and conference participation

  • Sales of promotional materials like blazers and T-shirts

With these income sources, the parish aims to implement its programs effectively. The budget also accounted for expenses related to Presbytery and SMG meetings, administration logistics, outreach activities, and leadership appreciation.

A Heartfelt Conclusion

As the gathering came to a close, Mr. Sono delivered closing remarks filled with gratitude. He thanked all attendees for their support, acknowledged the Nghenabo family’s warm hospitality, and commended the executive committee for organizing a successful event. The Madodana Annual Gathering in Mokopane was a powerful reminder of the strength found in faith, unity, and service.
